How might car repairs lead to an accident?

On Behalf of | Oct 19, 2022 | Car Accidents |

When you take your car to an auto repair shop, you expect to receive it back in good working condition. However, sometimes auto mechanics can be negligent, and their carelessness can make your car unsafe.

Below are some issues that could cause accidents.

Brake replacements

If you take your car to a mechanic to service the brakes, they should replace worn brake pads, change damaged rotor discs, and inspect for leaks or low oil levels. However, when the mechanic fails to make the necessary replacements or fails to make important inspections of the car’s braking system, you may experience brake failure while on the road. That could cause a car crash that results in injuries or death.

Incorrect adjustment of the headlights

Most car accidents occur at night because of low visibility, and drivers rely on headlights to see. Therefore, it can be difficult to see if a mechanic fails to adjust your headlights correctly. This may cause you to slam into another car or item when driving at night.

Power steering issues

Your car’s power steering system is essential as it helps you to turn easily. Therefore, if you suspect your power steering system, you should take your car to an auto repair shop. Your mechanic will check the fluid levels, replace a faulty power steering pump, clear blocked valves, and inspect your steering belt. However, if a mechanic fails to make the proper repairs, your steering wheel may fail, leading to a serious accident.

It is the responsibility of your auto repair mechanic to ensure all repairs are correctly performed and in line with the current standards. If they fail to do so and it causes an accident, you might be able to claim for the damages you suffer.
